During the couple’s 100th episode of “Unscheduled podcast,” posted on Wednesday, Jan. 8, the pair discussed a viral clip from the infamous May 2024 podcast episode in which Matt, 26, claimed he wouldn’t be celebrating Father’s Day until December of that year because their celebration is in June 2023 was “a bummer”. .” (The couple has two sons, Griffin, 2, and August, 1.)
Abby, 25, was the start of the pair’s reunion for the music video, which has garnered more than 9.4 million views and an avalanche of criticism. “Matt’s saga about his father’s birthday. It was an unforgettable moment from (the Unplanned 2024 podcast). How would you rate this moment…one out of 10? You have to include emotional trauma,” Abby asked Matt in the new episode.
Matt replied: “God, I can laugh about it now (but) at the time I was horrified. I think it’s funny now, I think it’s so stupid. The words I said … were also so stupid that I obviously didn’t sound very good at all.”
He continued: “I just looked so selfish. I looked so full of myself.’
Despite Matt’s apparent remorse, Abby said she thought it was “kind of funny in retrospect”, before adding that she hadn’t actually seen the controversial clip and as a result didn’t know how Matt had come across at the time .
“In general, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with … arguing, but I haven’t seen the clip, and maybe it looked really bad in the clip,” Abby admitted. “In that case, it’s up to us. I guess we had it.’
Abby, who was pregnant with the couple’s second child at the time, revealed how she had combined her husband’s birthday with Father’s Day in 2023 because the two events fell on the same day. The couple have also just returned from their babymoon and Matt admitted the family have been very busy at the time.
Both Abby and Matt agreed they would be “boycotting Father’s Day in June” as a result of last year’s turnout, opting to celebrate the holiday in September as “nothing happens in September”.
The high school sweethearts have become somewhat familiar with arguments over the years, attracting criticism again in September 2024, when they revealed they went out to dinner with friends while their children slept in the family’s bedroom. “So we took them away for five nights and it became clear that they didn’t like it and so we didn’t either,” Abby wrote in an Instagram Story at the time. “So THEN we switched our lunch time to AFTER bed and FaceTIMED on the monitors while we ate. And it worked out so much better for everyone!”
The post was met with widespread disapproval, despite the source’s statement Us Weekly that the families on the cruise had “rooms next to each other and they took it in turns,” adding that the children “were never alone, and the use of a video babysitter was an added precaution.”
Abby and Matt married in July 2019 before welcoming their sons. Since becoming parents, the podcast hosts have shared their relationship and parenting experiences through their podcast as well as on social media.
