Zimbabwe’s blueberry exports: Growers complain of minimal government support

Zimbabwe’s blueberry exports place the country as one of Africa’s top growers, generating more than $100 million in export revenue annually. But 20 years after reclaiming the land, local black farmers have found it difficult to break into the capital-intensive blueberry sector. There are only 22 blueberry farmers and a handful of local farmers. FRANCE 24’s Nyasha Chingoyo reports that major barriers to entry include an investment of up to $80,000 per hectare to grow crops.
