Zhang: Fury vs. Joshua “It means nothing” now
Zhilei Zhang says a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua “doesn’t mean much” at this point in their careers. It’s like, who cares? These guys are just fighting for cash in a meaningless fight. If Turki Al-Sheikh wanted to be tough, he would have Fury and Joshua earn their dough by walking on a bed of hot coals first and facing Martin Bakole.
Zhang notes that the two British heavyweights had talked about fighting years ago when they both held world titles, but now that they don’t, they’re still talking. He sees Joshua-Fury as a fight that would only show who is ONE of the best heavyweights in the UK, not the best.
Because the Joshua vs. Fury to prove who is the best British heavyweight, they must defeat Daniel Dubois, Moses Itauma and Fabio Wardley.
It is doubtful that either of them can beat these three young lions. Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) already failed in his fight against Dubois, being knocked out in the fifth round on September 21 in front of a crowd of 90,000 fans at London’s Wembley Stadium. Not surprisingly, Fury has no desire to mix it up with Dubois. Know your limitations.
The whole purpose behind Fury fighting Joshua is for cash. That’s it, just the dough. Neither of them need the extra money, but they won’t turn it down.
Senseless fight
“Usyk is absolutely undisputed, and I think he gave a much better performance than in the first fight. It was one-sided. I think he is the king of the heavyweight division,” said Zhilei Zhang secondsouttalking about Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Tyson Fury last week.
“I don’t think this fight means much in terms of belts and championships because it’s been talked about for years,” Zhang said of a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua. “When they both had belts, it was talked about. Now, neither of them have belts and they’re still talking about it.
“I think it’s a good way to see who is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, but other than that, I don’t see any meaning to this fight other than bragging rights,” Zhang said.
Not that Fury and Joshua are done at this stage of their careers. They were never as good as their fans thought they were. Neither beat solid fighters like Martin Bakole or Daniel Dubois during their careers.
AJ and the Gypsy King took advantage of the weak opposition around them and were carefully matched by their promoters.
It would be better if Fury and Joshua beat someone first before they meet in their ‘Battle of Britain’ match in 2025, but they probably won’t bother. Their confidence levels must be at an all-time low and they won’t want to risk losing to someone else. Joshua has already had a whole package of rebuilding fights and it didn’t help. Fury hasn’t beaten a talented fighter in years.
