Zendaya’s Dune wardrobe woes sound as gross as Arrakis
Zendaya is one of Hollywood’s trendiest stars right now — if there’s a red carpet, she’s going to wear something distinctive and stunningly beautiful. But in a new interview, the star of Dune: Part Two admitted that the elaborate costume he wore to portray the Arrakis-dwelling free warrior Chani presented physical challenges far beyond high heels or haute couture armor.
Speaking of In a magazine (via Diversity), Zendaya explained that despite being in great shape since filming the tennis drama Contendersfor which she was not yet fully prepared Dune: Part Twothe “heavy and restrictive” wardrobe situation. From the sound of it, nobody would be.
While filming in Jordan, she said: “It was very hot and I remember thinking, ‘Oh man, the bathrooms are so far away’ because we had to walk to the locations. If you have to pee, you need at least 10 minutes to get out of the suits.
With that in mind, she said, “I thought, ‘Damn, I don’t want to drink too much water.’ I was so afraid of peeing or pooping, honestly, in the suit on set. One day I didn’t drink enough and got heat stroke. I felt so irritated. I remember calling my mom on the bathroom floor and saying, “I feel terrible.” She asked, “Did you drink water today?” I said no. I thought I was smart, but you can’t do that. So, lesson learned.”
Not for nothing, Zendaya’s remarks might remind you of another critically acclaimed sci-fi blockbuster with restrictive suits: The shape of water. When it came out in 2018, Doug Jones said he needed to “take care of his gut before he pulled this suit. Because when I’m in a suit, it’s going to be for a good 16, 17 hours a day. So you need to make sure that you don’t have a small accident. And that’s my biggest fear in this world is that one day they’ll take off my suit and be disgusted by the scent.
hey The shape of water won the award for best film. Perhaps this is a good omen for Dune: Part Two?
