The kingdom of public domain of horrors already answered the question “What might a killer Winnie the Pooh look like?”—p similar studies from the dark sides of PopeyePinocchio, Tinkerbell, and other traditionally child-friendly characters follow suit. Perhaps the most anticipated reimagining is of Disney icon Mickey Mouse, whose image has gone public when Steamboat Willie did in 2024– and now there’s a first look at his terrifying appearance in the upcoming Screamboat.

According to Variety, “Screamboat follows a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride that turns deadly when a mischievous mouse goes on the rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers. The unlikely crew must band together to thwart the murderous threat before their relaxing trip turns into a nightmare.

Speaking to traders, writer-director Stephen Lamore praised Thornton’s performance and the Quantum Creation FX effects, saying: “Screamboat is my way of paying homage to Disney while putting a macabre yet comedic twist on the classic.”

LaMorte also made a 2022 Grinch horror parody The evil one; ScreamboatThe screenplay was written by Matthew Garcia-Dunn. The cast also includes Teen WolfTyler Posey, Cobra Kaiis Jesse Cove and StreamThis is Alison Pitel. Screamboat originally planned for release on January 31; when io9 reached out earlier this month to the distributors to confirm or update, we didn’t hear back. However, Variety’s report says that the film has indeed been pushed back to April, without specifying an exact date.
