Yogurt brand Epigamia’s co-founder Rohan Mirchandani passes away at 42 due to cardiac arrest
Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of Epigamia, a leading Greek yogurt brand in India, died on December 21 at the age of 42 due to cardiac arrest. The news was confirmed by the official statement of Epigamia’s parent company, Drums Food International.
Mirchandani, a graduate of NYU Stern and The Wharton School, founded Drums Food International in 2013. Under his leadership, the brand grew from Hoki Poki ice cream to Epigamia, which is popular in yogurt and other dairy products, with more than 20,000 retail outlets in 30 cities, the company was gearing up for Middle East expansion by 2025-26 the dates.
Epigamia’s senior management, led by Ankur Goel (COO and Founding Member) and Uday Thackeray (Co-Founder and Director), will continue to manage the company with the full support of its board of directors, including the Mirchandani family and key investors such as Verlinvest and DSG consumer partners.
“Rohan was our mentor, friend and leader,” Goel and Tucker said in a joint statement.
Epigamia’s board echoed this sentiment, calling Mirchandani a “visionary leader” whose dedication and passion have made a lasting impact. “We will work closely with management to take Rohan’s legacy to greater heights,” the statement said.
Mirchandani’s death follows other recent losses in India’s startup ecosystem, including Pepperfry co-founder Ambaresh Murthy and Good Capital’s Rohan Malhotra.
Known for his innovative spirit, Mirchandani often spoke of his “eureka moment” during a lecture at a business school in Mumbai, which inspired him to address the lack of innovation in India’s FMCG sector were part of his ambitious vision.
