Yashasvi Jaiswal confesses to Travis Head ‘I hit it’ after controversial dismissal at MCG
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed in controversial fashion during the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne. It was a short ball from Pat Cummins that Jaiswal looked to pull down leg.
The Australians went to appeal but the referee did not give it. Cummins moved for review and the decision was sent up. Jaiswal was seen advancing towards his batting partner Washington Sundar after Australia opted for a DRS.
During this half, Travis Head also went past India’s opener and seemed to have a word with him. After the brief conversation, Head was convinced that Jaiswal had hit the ball and raised his fists claiming that he was out.

Yashasvi Jaiswal appeared to have informed Travis Head that he had poked the ball on its way to goalkeeper Alex Carey. The opener stood with his partner Washington Sundar and waited patiently for the decision.
The controversy came when Snicko showed nothing when the ball went over the edge of the bat. However, the ball changed its path after going past the bat. Jaiswal appeared to have got him right, but there was no conclusive evidence to overturn the decision.
The Australian players were surprised to see nothing of Snicko. The third umpire looked at the replays repeatedly and finally gave it. The Australian players were elated after getting the big wicket and celebrated as if they had already won the match.
Wonderful match for Yashasvi Jaiswal
It was the great wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal that had stood between Australia and victory since the start of the innings. The left-handed opener showed great resilience in his stubborn bowling and scored a fine 84. It was a different knock for Jaiswal, who faced 208 balls and hit 8 fours during his knock.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s innings kept India on course to save the game, but his wicket made things easy for Australia as they took the next three wickets quickly.
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a wonderful game with the bat overall. He had also scored 82 off 118 balls in the first innings which included 11 fours and 1 six. The left-back handled the pressure well and played a world-class Australian attack brilliantly.
Australia goes 2-1 in the series
Meanwhile, Australia won the match by 184 runs to hand India a heartbreaking defeat. The hosts picked up seven wickets in the last session to snuff out India’s hopes. The match looked set for a draw at tea, with Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal looking set at the crease.
But Travis Head took the wicket of Pant from a follow-on medium to bring Australia back into the game. It opened the door for India and the hosts made the most of it.
