Before the Chiefs’ game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, January 5th official X account released a list of inactive players that included Kelce and a host of Chiefs rookies.
“Our inactives for tonight’s game,” the Chiefs wrote, highlighting Kelce and his teammates at running back Issia Pachecodefender Patrick Mahomescornerback Trent McDuffiewest George Carloftistackle Taylor’s answerand defensive means Chris Jones.
Why did the Chiefs decide to bench so many starters for the final game of the regular season? There’s a good reason for the decision — the 15-1 team has already secured home-field advantage and advanced to the first round of the NFL playoffs. On Christmas Day 2024, the Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC after defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10.

with Mahomes doesn’t startbackup quarterback Carson Wentz was under center at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High. The head coach spoke to journalists about this on Wednesday, January 1 Andy Reid said he wasn’t “concerned” about sitting at the start.
“I’ve been through it before, so it doesn’t bother me,” Reed explained at the time. “It gives the other guys a chance to grow and you can use everybody.”
Reid, 66, said “the main thing is to make sure we stay smart in all areas in this game and for the next few weeks.”
“We want to stay sane mentally and physically, and then it’s our responsibility to do that and how we manage our time,” he added. “I do it in training and the guys, the players and the coaches, work on it.”
Given that the Chiefs’ last game of the regular season was on the road and Kelsey didn’t play, it didn’t come as a huge surprise to Swifties and NFL fans that the tight end’s girlfriend, Taylor Swiftwas not present.
Rest assured that the pop star will likely attend more than a few of the team’s playoff games, especially since the road to the Super Bowl goes through Kansas City.
