Why the Chiefs won’t show up during the NFL playoffs this weekend

The first round of the NFL postseason begins this weekend with the Wild Card playoffs in the AFC and NFC conferences — but the reigning Super Bowl champions will not play the game.
The team “Kansas City Chiefs” won the 1st place in the AFC their Christmas win in 2024 over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I thought it was a complete team performance. The defense stepped up, the offense stepped up (and) everyone put their stamp on the game,” quarterback Patrick Mahomes told reporters after the game. “I told my pregnant wife (Brittany Mahomes) I was going to get the #1 seed so we could have a baby.’
The No. 1 seed does not have to play in the Wild Card game. (That means the NFC’s Detroit Lions also have a bye week.) The rest of the conference’s top seven teams will make the field, while the Chiefs and Lions will receive what can best be described as hard-earned weekend For Patrick, it’s also when his wife is about to give birth to their third child.
The Chiefs will play the winner of one of the Wild Card games in the divisional round of the playoffs later this month. The division winners eventually face off in an attempt to advance to the conference championship, which of course determines the NFC and AFC teams that will play in the 2025 Super Bowl.
Super Bowl LIX will be held in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, and the Chiefs hoping to make history and win a third consecutive Lombardi trophy.

“To win one is extremely difficult, to win two back-to-back like the Chiefs did — as we know in sports history — is almost impossible,” retired quarterback Tom Brady said during a Fox Sports broadcast in September 2024. “Three wins in a row? There’s a reason why no one did. To put the three of those together … with the last draft, a very tough schedule, all the turnover in free agency, guys staying motivated, that’s a big challenge.”
Brady, 47, added: “Fortunately, they have a great coach Andy Reid (who) never looks back. He’s not going to say, ‘Hey, because we were great last year, we’re going to be great this year.’ He’s bringing these guys to justice. But to win it all again is an important task.”
In the final game of the regular season and leading the division, Reed made a decision sit a few top beginners including Patrick, 29, Travis KelceChris Jones and much more. Reserve defender Carson Wentz Started a road game against the Denver Broncos on January 5, which ended in a 38-0 rout of the Chiefs, eliminating the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins from the playoffs.
