‘Wanted to be treated as a prodigy’: 19-yr-old healthcare app founder loses Shark Tank deal due to overconfidence
In the latest season of Shark Tank India, the 19-year-old founder impressed the sharks with his past success in building multiple startups.Himanshu Rajpurohit, the 19-year-old founder of health app Nexera.Health, claimed to have already built 2 businesses and sell them to successfully start the third.
Nexera.Health is the ultimate healthcare platform for corporates and focuses on preventive care, diagnostics and telehealth. The platform also aims to improve employee health and productivity.
Rajpurohit was seeking funding of Rs 75 lakh for a 1.5 percent stake in his company. He also mentioned that Ritesh Agarwal, the founder of OYO, inspired him to start his journey as an entrepreneur at a young age.
Despite an impressive start, the 19-year-old entrepreneur couldn’t get the deal out of the sharks due to overconfidence.
The pitch went viral on social media. Needless to say, netizens were outraged by the young founder’s overconfidence and called the pitch “hard to watch.” One social media user commented, “His arrogance it was next level,” wrote a second user.
“His web page was horribly misleading. Our partners had AWS, Microsoft, etc. The whole game looked like a scam. No wonder all the sharks came out right away,” wrote a third user.
“Nexera’s pitch was hard to watch. The pitcher kept tooting his own horn. I still don’t know what his product is. Too much buck buck,” another user said.
While Kunal Bahl wasn’t sure the app was appealing to CFOs, Vineeta Singh quizzed the young founder on the viability of his app in a saturated market.
While Rajpurohit didn’t seem to have an answer to these questions, the situation only got worse when he said he was on the show for mentorship and could attract investment from elsewhere.
This response infuriated boAt Lifestuyle co-founder Aman Gupta, who accused Himanshu of having a “follower hangover that is reflected in your third business.” Bahl also noted that the 19-year-old apparently rushed to create a new app version just 2 days before its appearance on Shark Tank India, which made the sharks even more skeptical.
Not only this, Namita Thapar, CEO of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, also refused to offer, citing lack of differentiation in the app.
