Vodafone has demonstrated The capabilities of a new satellite network by doing what it calls the “first” satellite video call, although with some warnings. The company used a partner AST Spacemobile“Bluebird satellites specially designed To transmit 4G/5G mobile broadband signals from space. This technology will give users a broadband cell capacity with every 4G/5G smartphone in remote areas deprived of traditional mobile coating.

In his demonstration, Vodafone Group CEO Margrita Della Valle explained that Bluebird satellites could connect directly to a regular smartphone and then signal the signal back to the Vodafone ground through a satellite connection. She then called an engineer in a remote mountain region of Wales, “nothing place” without cellular coating. The quality was a bit of low resolution and had a significant lag, but it was decent otherwise.

Ast Spacemobile’s five Bluebird satellites have built -in communication arrays that give smartphones outside the shelf the same voice, data and video speed as a broadband tower, up to 120 megabits per second. Once they work, satellites will provide “continuous cell broadband service in the United States and in selected markets worldwide.” This will allow cell users to communicate even in areas with limited coverage of broadband towers, such as rural communities or national parks.

Spacex Starlink has already made A satellite video call using a simple mobile phone, so Vodafone hedge’s claim. Moreover, the company said it made “the world’s first space -free space call using standard mobile phone and commercial satellites designed to offer a full mobile broadband experience.”

T-Mobile is Work on Such a US network in partnership with Starlink’s direct cell service, but at first it will be limited to text messages. It is also possible to contact special satellite telephone networks using A specific iPhone and Google Pixel Models that have personalized modems-but this is limited to low data communications such as SMS messages and emergency signals.

In contrast, the Vodafone network will allow a broadband broadband grease when it starts in Europe, probably by the end of 2025. Meanwhile, AT&T, Verizon and AST Spacemobile will start testing in the United States this spring, but there is no date of launch ( or pricing) for state service has still been announced.
