Tom Holland is the latest celebrity to open up about a toxic work environment and on-set drama.

While Tom Holland didn’t accuse anyone of exploitation, he did claim that there was a lot of “hostility” on the set of the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room.

Tom Holland reveals the working environment while filming the Apple TV series

The 28-year-old actor, best known for his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, recently opened up in an interview Men’s health about the tense and often uncomfortable atmosphere on the set of the Apple TV+ limited series The Crowded Room.
“There was quite a lot of animosity on that set. It was not a very harmonious place, and there were many disputes and clashes,” said Holland.

Tom Holland says the project forced him to confront his sobriety

The thriller series, which explored heavy themes and complex emotional territory, proved to be a demanding experience for the young star. While he’s been open about his journey to sobriety in the past, Holland admitted that the pressure of the set made him question his resolve.
“I thought, ‘If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it’s going to be worse, right?'” he recalls.
The actor then admitted that he is very “strong-willed”. “When I decide to do something, I really do it,” he said proudly. Holland also leaned heavily on his support system to get him through the experience. “I relied a lot on loved ones: family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, people I didn’t know were also sober,” he shared.

Tom Holland talks about sobriety

Holland has revealed in numerous interviews that his decision to quit drinking was not caused by a single dramatic event, but by the realization of his connection to alcohol. In early 2023, he shared on the Intentional with Jay Shetty podcast that he tried to challenge Dry January and found that it was much more difficult than he expected.
After completing the assignment, Holland noticed how much he was dependent on alcohol and decided to extend his sobriety last January. What started as a month-long experiment turned into a year-long commitment and eventually a permanent lifestyle choice.

“I didn’t wake up one day and say, ‘I’m going to quit drinking forever.’ I just said, ‘I’m going to do Dry January,’ and suddenly I thought, ‘Oh, maybe I’m not as in control as I thought,'” Holland admitted.

What is a “crowded room”?

In The Crowded Room, Holland takes on the role of Danny Sullivan, an ordinary man who is arrested after a shooting in New York in 1979. Through a series of intense interrogations led by Detective Raya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), Danny’s mysterious and complicated past begins to unravel.
In addition to Holland and Seyfried, the series features an impressive cast including Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase and Lior Raz. Guest stars include Jason Isaacs, Christopher Abbott, Zachary Golinger and Thomas Sadosky, who is Seyfried’s real-life husband.
Tom Holland is taking a break from acting
