According to London The Sunday TimesThe Peaky Blinders alum has offered to help the crew on his new show Fastenerwhen they were told there was no money to pay them.
Last summer, contractors were building sets for the new Hardy Paramount + show. A company called Helix 3D hired 50 workers for the project who, despite being paid by Studios 101 and MTV Studios, ultimately failed to pay their employees.
The lost earnings were £250,000, or US$315,000. A leaked WhatsApp message from December allegedly revealed that Helix 3D had no money to pay its contractors.
“He offered (to pay),” said a source close to Hardy The Times. “But the production and Paramount sorted the payment.”
A source at Paramount told the publication that the studio was “outraged” when it learned of the situation and was working to pay the employees.
The Times also published extracts from a letter written by union organizer Chris Hudson to Helix 3D CEO Brian Dowling before the pay situation was resolved.
“Our members deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and be compensated in a timely manner for their work. It is completely unacceptable that they are facing significant financial volatility, especially in the run-up to Christmas,” Hudson wrote.
Hudson, who works for the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theater Union, said the financial situation could affect the mental health of its members over the holidays.
“As we approach Christmas, our members are rightfully very upset and many fear that they will not be able to meet their needs,” he wrote. “I believe you can appreciate the significant impact it has on their mental health as well.”
Hudson also criticized the lack of communication with Helix 3D.
“What appears to have been avoidable is the lack of foresight that this situation could occur given the serious financial problems Helix found itself in,” he continued. “What also could have been avoided was the lack of information and transparency provided to our members throughout their work regarding the current state of Helix’s affairs.”
