Way to start the year, New York Times puzzle makers. I found today’s New York Times Connections Puzzle kind of hard. Did you fight at all today? Read on for today’s Connections tips and answers.

The Times now has a Connections Botlike the one for Wordle. Go there after playing to get a numerical score and have the program analyze your answers. And players who are registered in the Times Games section can now geek out by following their progressincluding number of puzzles completed, win percentage, number of times they achieved a perfect score and their winning streak.

How to play Connections

The game is easy. Winning is hard. Look at the 16 words and mentally put them into related groups of four. Click on the four words that you think go together. The groups are color-coded, although you don’t know what goes where until you see the answers. The yellow group is the easiest, then green, then blue and purple is the hardest. Look carefully at the words and think of related terms. Sometimes the link is only part of the word. Four words were once grouped because each began with the name of a rock band, including “Rushmore” and “Journeyman.”

Tips for today’s Connections groups

Here are four tips for grouping in today’s Connections puzzle, ranked from the easiest, yellow group, to the difficult (and sometimes weird) purple group.

Yellow Group Tip: Slippery and slippery creatures.

Green Group Tip: Glowing things.

Blue Group Tip: Pictures of the Netherlands.

Purple Group Tip: Going down.

Blue Group: Dutch symbols.

Purple group: It ends with diving synonyms.
