Tim Allen turns to possible Jonathan Taylor Thomas “Switching Gears.”
Tim Allen showed whether there are plans for the former Home improvement Castor Jonathan Taylor Thomas will appear in his new sitcom Shifting gears.
“Everything is possible,” 71-year-old Allen shared exclusively the latest issue Us Weekly. “He just came back (to the last episode we shot). He appeared on the set.”
Allen said he would like nothing more than that share the screen with Thomas43, again, adding, “He’s literally my baby. I raised this child for eight years in home improvement. These are all my children, and I’m sick of it.”
Before leading the cast of ABC’s Shifting gearsAllen starred on Home improvement from 1991 to 1999 Thomas, Patricia Richardson, Taran Noah Smith, Zachery Ty Bryan, Richard Karn and Debbie Dunning. Thomas left the series early to focus on school, a decision he eventually made completely abandon the action.
Allen and Thomas reunited on screen in four episodes Last Man Standing. Thomas also directed three episodes of the sitcom. While Thomas remained out of the public eye, Allen continued to find success as America’s favorite sitcom dad with the role of Mike Baxter in Last Man Standingwhich lasted from 2011 to 2021, and now Matt Parker Shifting gears.

“(My ex-screen wife) Nancy Travis once told me (something) after I called her during Last Man Standing. I said, “Did you talk to the girls (who play our daughters) over the summer?” Then there’s a long pause and she says, “Tim, these aren’t our daughters, and I’m not really your wife,” he quipped. “She was so wonderful because sometimes when they were having problems on the show, I’d ask, ‘How do you think they feel?’ And she said, “Tim, they’re actors. We just read (what’s on the page, but) it’s not really that sad.’
incl Shifting gearsAllen plays a widowed father opposite someone else’s daughter Kat Dennings. The duo opened up about how they “immediately” a connection was formed once accepted into the show.
“The director wanted to see how we got along. It never stopped. Kismet was crazy. We were both born on the same day — many years apart,” he said us. “We are different in many ways. But our attitude towards comedy is very similar. She moves me, and it’s not easy for me. Kat can (say these lines) with a straight face. She played on her anger 2 broken girls — very similar to the sharpness that Mike Baxter can get into right now.”
Allen continued: “When we’re arguing on screen, it’s funny that we interrupt each other and it just comes naturally. I don’t know where it comes from. I already love this man. She and her husband (Andrei WK) great people. I feel like I’ve known her for an awful lot of years, as have most of this cast.’

Dennings, 38, felt the same way her bond with Allen.
“It clicked pretty quickly. We had lunch after I accepted the role, and I immediately felt that somehow I could trust him,” she shared in an exclusive interview with us. “And he opened up to me very quickly. So I (was) like, ‘Okay, this guy’s letting me down.’
Trust on set allowed Dennings and Allen brush up on your comedy skills. “It was very organic,” Dennings recalls. “And as (filming) progressed, our scenes are so funny, if I do say so myself. Controversy is my favorite scene because I’m not afraid. There is no fear for either of us. We just go for it and it’s a lot of fun.”
While Allen liked to work Shifting gears, he wasn’t sure at first he returned to sitcoms, told stories us“It was a difficult decision. I did Disney+ Santa Claus at the time, and I said, “I really can’t think about it right now.” Do I want to do linear TV? I was so depressed at how broadcasting had hurt television. So, when I’ve done it, I want to bring it up.”
Shifting gears airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8:00 PM ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
