Journalists were waiting for the arrival of the Minister of Health when the shooting started.

According to reports, two journalists and a police officer were shot.

Leslie Voltaire, head of Haiti’s presidential transition council, said in a video statement: “We express our condolences to the families of all the victims, especially the Haitian National Police and all journalist associations.

“We guarantee them that this action will not be fruitless.”

Despite the installation of a new transitional government in April and the deployment of an international force led by Kenyan police six months ago, the people of Haiti continue to suffer from intolerable levels of gang violence.

Haiti has been engulfed in a wave of gang violence since the assassination of then-President Jovenel Moise in 2021.

About 85% of Port-au-Prince is still under gang control.

The United Nations says up to 5,000 people have died in violence in Haiti this year, and the country is now on the brink of collapse.
