There is a ‘backlash against gender balance everywhere’: EU equality commissioner
For our first Talking Europe interview with the new crop of EU Commissioners, we welcome Hadja Lahbib, responsible for preparedness and crisis management as well as equality issues. Lahbib, a former Belgian foreign minister, talks about the challenges of his extremely broad portfolio, which includes Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Afghanistan and Sudan. A common theme is the challenges faced by women and girls in crisis situations around the world – linked to Lahbib’s efforts to promote gender balance and women’s rights within the EU itself.
