The US military said on Wednesday that its forces had struck a weapons depot they were using Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group Targeting naval warships and merchant ships in Yemen’s Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted multiple precision strikes on two Iranian-backed Houthi underground Advanced Conventional Weapons (ACW) depots in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The military command confirmed that no US personnel were injured and no US equipment was damaged in the strike. It has not been confirmed that Houthi terrorists were killed or injured in the attack.

“The strikes are part of CENTCOM’s efforts to discourage the Iranian-backed Houthis from threatening their partners, military and merchant shipping in the region,” CENTCOM added.

The US also successfully responded to at least two separate attempts by Houthi rebels to attack naval and commercial vessels in December alone.

Attacks by the Houthis have increased in recent years, but only after the October 7, 2023, attacks by Hamas on Israel. The Houthis are also increasingly targeted during the last 15 months.

Israel has warned that unless attacks by the Yemeni terrorist group stop, Jerusalem will respond as it has against other Iranian-backed forces.

“We will hunt down all the leaders of the Houthis and shoot them like we have done elsewhere,” Defense Minister Israel Katz said in late December, according to the Associated Press.
