At least five people were injured and one suspect was killed as a result of a person driving a truck through the glass doors of a JC Penney car. Mall in Texasthe police said.

The incident happened Saturday evening, just days before Christmas, at the Killeen Mall in Killeen, Texas, about 70 miles north of Austin.

At a press conference Saturday evening, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said the truck was driven “several hundred yards” from the entrance of the JC Penney store.

Surprised shoppers were injured as the driver “actively ran over people” and went fifth to the hospital Sergeant Washko said. He said that the injured were between 6 and 75 years old.

The incident happened as the authorities have pointed out The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was seen “driving erratically” and police attempted to pull him over.

Sergeant Washko said that instead of stopping, the driver got off the highway, drove into the Killeen Mall parking lot and smashed his car through the doors of JC Penney.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck was killed by law enforcement agencies.

“There were officers from DPS, the Killeen Police Department and three other agencies engaged in shooting to eliminate this threat to the society,” Sergeant Vashko said.
