Kylian Mbappe will miss Real Madrid’s league visit to Rayo Vallecano this weekend but could be available for next week’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.

The French striker scored against Atalanta in the Champions League in midweek before limping off.

Real had good news as midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is set to return to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury, coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday.

“Kylian is not serious, he won’t be here tomorrow, but he will travel to Qatar (for Wednesday’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup final) and we will assess the risk there. Camavinga is fine, he is available for tomorrow,” Ancelotti told reporters.

Mbappe, who moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from French champions Paris St Germain on a free transfer in June, is Madrid’s top scorer in La Liga with nine goals in 15 games.

“In the last breaks he has been here, resting, working… you don’t know. Fortunately, he will only be out for a short period and will not lose what he has achieved in recent times,” said Ancelotti.

The second place, Madrid, has 36 points in 16 games and the leader, Barcelona, which has played one more game, by two points.

After losing 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao in LaLiga, Madrid bounced back with a 3-0 win at Girona, followed by a Champions League victory over Atalanta.

Ancelotti said the win over Serie A leaders Atalanta was a big moment.

“We had a tough night. There was a lot of commitment, attitude. Collective work. It was a complete game that adds optimism, of course,” added the Italian.

“Wednesday is very important, but for now we’re just thinking about tomorrow.”
