The next major bet on Meta may be a humanoid robotics
META creates a new team in its Reality Labs hardware unit to build robots that can help with physical tasks, Bloomberg reportedS The team will be responsible for developing a hardware for humanoid robotics, potentially including hardware that can perform household tasks.
The new Meta Robotics Group, which will be led by former Marc Whitten CEO, the former Cruise CEO without a driver, will also create robotic software and AI, according to Bloomberg reporting. Whitten also had a stay in Amazon, Microsoft and Sonos, According to his LinkedIn profileS
To be clear, the Meta plan is not to build a robot with a meta-brand-on initially not. More recently, Meta executives, including CTO Andrew Bosworth, believe the company has the opportunity to build a hardware base for the rest of the robotics market, Per Bloomberg – similar to what Google has achieved with its Android operating system in the smartphone sector.
Bloomberg reports that Meta has also entered discussions with robotics companies, including Unitree Robotics and Figure AI, so that he can partner with prototypes.
