The new Katamari Damacy creator game is for teenage anger, cute dogs and eye bungers
As a child, The beloved Japanese game developer Keita Takahashi was chosen at school, so he never felt like going. His last game, To tIt imitates some of these challenges. He tells the story of a teenager-child who struggles to fit, to deal with eye bungers, and to be through song and research, all while their hands are inexplicably stuck in T-Pose.
To t, To be released from Annapurna Interactive May 28, follows the Takhashi trajectory for creating colorful, playful games that are undeniably sweet but incredibly strange. His most famous game, DamariIt is a delay of everything that is visible from pens to people, in a continuously growing ball, including an unforgettable soundtrack and the most igniting king, which is once the Grace games. Others like 2019 Wattamare eccentric, vital and full of PUPS
Created with Game Studio Uvula, To t This is followed by the struggles of teenagers who move in the bathroom, dressed and deal with thugs as their hands are trapped in T. Fortunately, the teenager’s dog, a shocking skillful creature that causes modern service dogs to get ashamed, is when the teenager needs an additional set of arms. (Annapurna Interactive appropriately describes the teenager’s fluffy helper as a “very sweet dog.”)
The episodic tale opens with an optimistic song for the game (not to be confused with. “Giraffe song“Song in Teaser Video by Rebecca Sugar). During a short demonstration I played, I led a teenager, washing their face, choosing outfits and preparing for school.
Hoping for some deeper view of the game, I followed Takahashi at the Xbox event in San Francisco during the GDC, where he hid in the back corner away from the bustle of the day and the bar. But while he is disgusting to answer too many questions about his game and what all this means, he will still be playful, gently trolls anyone who comes to him.
Below is a shortened version of a very puzzling interview.
Wired: Tell me a little about what usually happens in this game.
Keita Takahashi: (S)Laugh) What usually happens to this game?
We’ll start there.
This is a game for a teenager who is stuck as a T-Pose and tries to find out where T-Pose comes from. This is a game for – Omm. (S)Pause) Should I explain? (S)Another long pause) No. (S)Laugh))
This is fair. Who is this character? How would you describe them?
A teenager, a 13-year-old, woman or man, whatever I want, I don’t care-for some reason, he gets into T-Pose.
What makes the perfect posture?
Because it’s perfect! You are perfect. I think it’s just perfect.
What do you think the hardest thing to do when you are subjected to T?
Go to the bathroom. That is why the dog helps (with) everything. Changing clothes, bathroom, face washing.
I never played a game that made me start by going to the bathroom.
