The moment I fell in love with a doctor who
Rose, the first episode of Doctor whoRenaissance – Broad 20 years ago today– Repairs one of the best examples of the show what he wants to do and be in the modern era. Its introduction into the home life of its most satellite, Billy Piper Tyler’s title rosePut your story in the foreground, putting a template for the next 20 years Tardis travelers. His framing the doctor, so mysterious and extremely alien, gave Christopher Eccleston Canvas to deliver what a career would be. But most of all, at the most extent, he reminded us that deep within all the novelty and modernity of all this, it I knew What Doctor who He was always from the beginning.
Doctor who is to run.
The first scene of Eclaston in Rose comes after an opening act that introduces us to Rose’s life. We see her daily, we see how she interacts with her mother Jackie and her boyfriend Mickey, we see the bustle and the bustle and the banality of a completely ordinary life. This is fast, in so many that it is modern television then, from the descent of space, through the atmosphere of the Earth, right on the Rose alarm clock roughly the start of its day, to the Murray Gold Zippy Soundtrack, copying its rapid cuts. But everything slows down when Rose goes under the ground of his work at the Universal Store, trying to find the missing chief electrician. Music becomes fearsome, things become quiet and mysterious, slowly increase in tension and then bombarding it even more when the hordes of the dummies of the showcases crashes into the back spaces, they begin to come to life and speak it.
And then it comes, Crescendo: A hand that understands hers, out of nowhere, and a simple word poured out of Eccleston’s mouth. RunS

This is an electric moment, the blowing of the doors, while Rose and the doctor pass through and, yes, really, descends down the corridor. But this is more than this classic The WHO Trip in the game, this is the outbreak of energy that the doctor represents, to Rose and us like the audience, as he just competes in her life. The terror of these dummies, the auto -ups behind them, trying to break through as they escape to the nearby elevator. The sudden switch when the doctor moves from complimenting Rose to an alien cold, while he tells her that the associate he was looking for, Wilson, is dead. Everything suddenly runs a million miles per minute, but not the way Rose’s life was already in the opening of the episode: it’s a divergen, strange and exciting and suddenly dangerous. Everything has shifted with this grip on hand and this single word.
Then it is appropriate that the culmination of the stage with the doctor trying to expel, rises from his life as quickly as he enters her with a similar warning, telling her to run for her life as she prepares to blow her store and take the automobiles – and maybe with him – with that. All this characteristic, all this mystery, all that energyHe is there and left for only a few minutes, really redirecting with the violent explosion when Rose’s place of work goes into flames. Hits you like the audience as much as Rose hits, but that’s all Doctor who It should only be in this small fragment of time. It’s funny, it’s scary, it’s weird, there’s a mystery and a lure around this strange character who diverge and goes out, and you remain to take what’s left with a simple question: just Who the hell Is this man? How can you not, as I did 20 years ago, immediately be hung in this strange and wonderful adventure?
At this point, the descent of a corridor almost becomes ancillary, even if it is ultimately as the main Doctor who Like all this other emotion. But this is exactly how immediately Doctor whoThe regeneration of this has been understood from the beginning: and captures the energy that will support it over the next 20 years – and we hope much more beyondS
