Changing people’s view of beauty pageants. Hit movie of 2000 Miss congeniality follows FBI agent Gracie (Sandra Bullock) when she goes undercover at a beauty pageant to prove herself at work to her male colleagues (played by Benjamin Brat and Ernie Hudson).

Since she’s been a tomboy all her life, pageant manager Katie Morningside (Candice Bergen), according to expert Viktor Meling (Michael Caine) to prepare Gracie for the competition through a rather intense transformation process. Throughout the film, the police officer develops unexpected friendships, romances and is shocked when she manages to uncover life-threatening events at the pageant.

In 2000 Ellen DeGeneres revealed in an interview that the rom-com was based on her.

“When I was getting ready to co-host the Emmys, a writer saw me (on TV) learning how to walk in a dress and heels,” she shared with Adv magazine at the time. “My stylist at the time—a man—taught me and it was fun. The Miss congeniality the writer saw it and thought it was brilliant.’

Although based on a TV presenter, Bullock was also closely involved with Grace, later admitting that doing the fight scenes – and she did many of her own stunts – was easier than the pageant scenes. In addition, she told Entertainment tonight that she was trying to cut the swimsuit scene short.

“It was a huge bone of contention for me. I tried to write it out so many times,” he said speed – the actress shared. “It’s in the script. We’ve already shot it – in San Antonio.”
