The best Android phone from 2025
We test every aspect of a new phone from the battery and the processor to the cameras.
We test each phone in real scenarios focused on its features, design, performance, cameras, battery life and total value. We document our findings in an initial review, which is periodically updated when there are new software updates or compare with new phones from competitors such as Apple, Samsung, Google and OnePlus.
Photography
Photography is a major focus on most phones these days, so we take photos and videos of different topics in different settings and lighting scenarios. We try all the new camera modes as a 4K 120fps slow motion mode that debuted on the iPhone 16 Pro or the ADD Me Photo Tool, which launches with the Google Pixel 9 series.
Battery life
Battery testing is carried out in different ways. We appreciate how long the phone goes on during a typical day of use and we note how it performs during more focused video call sessions, a flow of media and games. We also conduct a video playback test that is not always included in the initial review and added later to the update.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 largely has the same camera hardware as the Z Flip 4. But the new chip brings some improvements to image processing.
Implementation
We use comparative analysis applications to measure productivity, along with our own anecdotal experiences, using the phone for our review. Particularly noteworthy are what graphics and animations look like. Are they smooth? Or are they lagging or stuttering? We also look at how quickly the phone switches between a horizontal and vertical orientation and how quickly the camera application opens and it is ready to take a photo.
We perform heavy processor tasks such as editing photos, export videos and play games. We appreciate whether a more version of a particular phone includes enough features so that it can be worth upgrading from older models.
