A 17-year-old student opened fire in a high school cafeteria in the southern city of Nashville, killing one person and wounding two others, police said.
In Nashville, Tennessee, law enforcement officials say a 17-year-old suspect shot a high school girl before killing himself.
Two more people were injured in the shooting that took place at the Antioch high school in the southern United States on Wednesday.
“I have received information regarding the incident at Antioch High School and am grateful to law enforcement and first responders who responded quickly and continue to investigate,” Gov. Bill Lee said on social media. post. “As we await more information, I join Tennesseans in praying for the victims, their families and the school community.”
Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) spokesman Don Aaron said during a press conference that the injured were being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Parents were told not to come to the school, located about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of downtown Nashville. Instead, they were advised to pick up their loved ones from a nearby medical facility.
Gun violence in the US continues with school shootings continuous pattern.
A database maintained by The Washington Post shows that as of December, there have been 426 school shootings in the United States since 1999, when two teenage gunmen opened fire at a high school in Columbine, Colorado.
In the deadliest school shooting to that time, they killed 15 people, including themselves.
Other high-profile school shootings have occurred in the quarter-century since then, including the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut that killed 26 people, including 20 children and six staff members.
The MNPD said Wednesday that the attack began at 11:09 a.m. (17:09 GMT). The suspect fired multiple shots in the school cafeteria before shooting himself in the head. In addition to the teenage girl who was killed in the attack, one student was injured and another was grazed in the arm.
Aaron, the police spokesman, said two school resource officers were on the scene but in a different part of the building when the shooting started. By the time they reached the area, the shootout had ended and the suspected assailant was dead.
After that, President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and the survivors.
“The president and his team are watching the news out of Nashville,” he said. “As details emerge, the White House offers its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to those affected by this senseless tragedy and thanks the brave first responders who responded.”
This is not the first time the Nashville area has experienced such tragedy in recent years.

In response, the Tennessee legislature passed a bill allowing some public school teachers and staff to carry concealed weapons on campus, though critics have questioned the measure’s effectiveness in light of the state’s loosening of gun restrictions.
