Teams with the most wins in Champions League matches since 1992/93
This season, the Champions League it underwent its biggest format change since the second group stage was scrapped ahead of the 2003/04 season.
After 20 seasons of 32 participants divided into eight groups of four with the top two qualifying for the knockout stage, UEFA revamped the format ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
36 teams now play in a group stage, playing eight matches instead of six in previous editions. The top eight reach the knockout phase, while those between 9 and 24 compete in a playoff to reach the round of 16.
The bottom eight sides are removed and will not fall into the Europa League. The new format seems to be working quite well and could turn out to be a huge success.

took Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson for a while to deal with the Champions League.
Domestic dominance between 1993 and 2001 was fairly easily achieved, but Europe was a different proposition. Of course, no one will forget the stunning comeback to win the trophy in 1999 with two stoppage-time goals, but that was their only final between 1993 and 2007.
United won another Champions League trophy in 2008, before reaching the final in 2009 and 2011, losing each time to Barcelona and Pep Guardiola.

The German side won the title in 2001, 2013 and 2020, but given their stature among Europe’s elite, perhaps the club should have won more, especially when Pep Guardiola took over between 2013 and 2016
Since their last title, Bayern have reached just one semi-final, losing to Real Madrid in 2023/24. In Vincent Kompany, they have a young and vibrant manager who is very ambitious. Could this culminate in a seventh European triumph in 2025?
They are second on the competition’s all-time wins list, recording 177 since their first game in 1994.
1
Real Madrid
194 wins
It’s certainly no surprise to see Real Madrid top this list of overall tournament wins, having achieved 194 since the start of the 1995/96 season.

Add six more European titles, and the club’s 15 continental titles will be a record they will hold for the foreseeable future.
Such is their consistency, Madrid have failed to reach the last four on just two occasions since 2011, making them the masters of the game’s best club competition.
This season has been more of a challenge as the club has lost three games in a row for the first time in the Champions League group stage.
Carlo Ancelotti has won this tournament five times, but extending that record could be his biggest challenge.
