Southwest Airlines pilot arrested for DUI

According to CBS NewsAlsop was scheduled to pilot a flight from Georgia to Chicago on Wednesday, January 15. Alsop allegedly smelled of alcohol and “may have had other signs of intoxication,” according to sources. In addition, WJCL adds that the pilot’s arrest took place at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
Allsop was “removed from duty” before takeoff. In addition, WJCL reports that the passenger flight was delayed from 6:05 a.m. to 10:56 a.m. as the airline worked to replace the pilot.
“The employee has been suspended,” a Southwest Airlines spokesman said. “Customers were accommodated on other flights and we apologize for the disruption to their travel plans. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our employees and customers.”
According to the report, the FAA “prohibits pilots from consuming alcohol while on duty or from operating or attempting to operate an aircraft for 8 hours after consuming alcohol…” In addition, the FAA prohibits pilots from operating an aircraft. “If they have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.04% or more.”

Alsop’s bail was set at $3,500, according to the publication. However, jail records show he was released on bond.
Officials have reportedly not released information about his blood alcohol level at the time of his arrest. meanwhile, WJCL reports that Allsop has been a licensed pilot since 2008.
