Sony Testing AI to drive PlayStation characters
As a company and platform of the first country, PlayStation and Sony have not deviated from using AI as part of their users’ value proposal. While competitor Microsoft has made A big show for his use for play and prototyping ideaInstead, Sony focuses on using AI and machine learning for Generation of frames and hardwareIt is largely far from experimenting with its applauded software portfolio from Playstation Worldwide Studios. But if the leaked video is an indication, it may change soon.
In a report from The VergeThe court turned attention to a YouTube video of what seems to be an internal presentation in Sony. The video has already been downloaded as a result of a copyright request by a company named Muso, which acts as a copyright company, which lists Sony Entertainment as one of its customers. In the video, the PlayStation Aloy hero hero of the two Horizon titles answers questions from the player’s characters with artificially generated animations, writing and voice. The video itself was told by Shawin Raghobarddal, Director of Sony Entertainment Software Engineering, whose main responsibilities include the intersection of video game technology and AI.
At no time, Raghoebardajal shows that it is a product that needs to be announced or integrated into games. The story is stated that this technology was developed with Guerilla Games as a prototype for Sony internal presentations.
The demonstration itself is powered using Openai’s whisper for speech to text and GPT-4 and Llama 3 as a conversational brain. Sony’s own synthesis of an emotional voice controls speech generation while its Mockingbird technology supplies the person’s animation. The Alyoy model is played by Horizon: Forbidden West, the previous title of the main horizon. While the game of VR Horizon, Call of the Mountain, allowed players to talk to Aloy while inhabiting another character, this demonstration takes on a more convenient role, although the player in the forbidden West will control Alyoy.
In the games, Alyoy is voiced by Ashley Burch, an actor of the Union, most famous outside the video games for his role in the mythical aspiration, but ubiquitous in the field of voice game of video games. We reached for Birch’s publicist, but we haven’t heard until the time of publication. SAG-AFTRA is still on a conditional blow to AI defense in voice acting, including voice replacements.
It is a little difficult to see the usefulness in making endless conversations with video game characters. Both headlines on the horizon were praised for writing them and stories about the characters restoring the world after the escape technology ended. Replacing this with AI does not seem to increase the player’s enjoyment so much. Maybe Sony has more ideas about where this can take video game design than exactly what is visible on the surface.
