Sony Announces Ghost of Tsushima, Helldivers Adaptations
Sony revealed more details about its upcoming game-to-screen adaptations, including new adaptation reveals, at its CES 2025 show. Specifically, it revealed that Screen Gems, which is part of Sony Pictures, is making a movie based on Helldivers 2; and partnered with Crunchyroll to make an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima. The company also revealed more details about its upcoming adaptations of Until Dawn and Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as the second season of the Emmy-winning series. The last of us.
PlayStation Studios’ Assad Kizilbash and Screen Gems’ Ashley Brooks have revealed more details about the Helldivers 2 and Until Dawn adaptations. There is little to reveal about the Helldivers movie other than the fact that it is currently in production and will be a live action movie. The two also showed a teaser featuring Peter Stormare, who appeared in Until Dawn and will also appear in the film adaptation. Stormare and Brucks emphasized that the film is not a direct adaptation, but pays homage to the games. The film releases on April 25.
Earlier in the show, Crunchyroll’s Rahul Purini took the stage to discuss the service’s popular and upcoming anime and also revealed that an anime adaptation of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima is in the works, called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. As the title suggests, the series is based on the game’s Legends multiplayer mode and was made in collaboration with Aniplex. It is slated for release sometime in 2027.
Qizilbash also made two final announcements: Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is getting an adaptation after all—specifically, a film adaptation. The game was originally slated to be adapted into a Netflix series, but a report from Rolling Stone revealed that it hasn’t been moving forward since last July. The other announcement was a release window for the upcoming second season of The Last of Us, along with a trailer showing several prominent characters, including Abby. The new season starts in April.
