Skeleton Crew Episode 7 recalls Anakin Skywalker’s darkest moment

This article contains spoilers for “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” episode 7, “We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble.”

All Star Wars projects run a spectrum of intensity, from the Saturday morning cartoon adventures of Rebels to the hyper-mechanical, anti-Imperial politics of Andor. But every project also has a number. For example, Insurgents has a lot of cartoony episodes full of gimmicks and dad jokes, but occasionally it goes all out for some much heavier moments.

For the most part, Skeleton Crew stays on the young side of things, which should be evident from its four pre-pubescent characters. Sure, there are references to some more adult-oriented ideas, but the show as a whole stays in Amblin Entertainment’s dangerous-but-not-somber children’s adventure sector. However, “Skeleton Crew” 7th episode“We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble,” has a brief moment that harkens back to one of the darkest moments in the entire Star Wars franchise.

After an entire season of characters telling kids they can’t trust Jod Na Nauvoo (Jude Law), he proves all his haters right by returning to his pirate ways. Sneaking back to Onyx Cinder, who is on the run from her old pirate crew, Jod goes into full disguise, yelling at the kids for being weak, annoying, and generally useless. He does all of this while brandishing a looted lightsaber he previously found in the hidden treasure of legendary pirate captain Tac Renado. While it’s pretty obvious that Jod actually has a soft spot for kids and that he’s mostly posing, it’s still hard to watch him threaten kids with a blue lightsaber and not think about Anakin Skywalker’s massacre of the young Jedi during order 66.

Jodh can survive Anakin’s massacre at the Jedi Temple

Lightsabers are always cool, but they aren’t always scary. If they are, it’s usually red that does the damage. When Jod walks into the Onyx Cinder’s cabin and ignites his stolen blade, all the kids cower in fear, and rightfully so. While not exactly frame-by-frame, the scene will naturally conjure up images of the young men holed up in the Jedi Council Chamber in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this scene is that it’s entirely possible that Jod himself survived that attack. In Crew of Skeletons, he appears to be 40, which would certainly make him old enough to be selected by the Jedi and taken to the temple on Coruscant before or during the Clone Wars. We also know he’s had at least some proper Jedi training, as he tells Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) in an earlier episode, “Your focus defines your reality.” the same line Qui-Gon Jinn delivers to a young Anakin in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

If Jodh wasn’t at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during Order 66, he would be on assignment with his master, fighting in the war. Given his age, the first option seems more likely, which would mean he’s all too familiar with the damage a blue lightsaber can do in the wrong hands.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Jodh Na Naud

So far, it’s hard to tell how trained Jodh Na Navud is with his lightsaber, as he’s done little with the stolen one other than brandishing it menacingly. Likewise, his arc was basically a copy-paste of Long John Silver’s from Treasure Island (or Treasure Planet, whichever you prefer). After being down on his luck, he runs into a few kids who have a real chance of getting him a big payday. He comes to take care of them, but when the treasure is in sight, he turns away from the obvious character development to run off with the loot. Even his pirate name, Captain Silva, is a reference to the character.

It seems clear that in episode 8, Jod will change his mind and regret the way he handled the kids. But with only one episode left, we might end the first season of Skeleton Crew with some big questions about Jod’s past. His Force powers don’t seem to be as strong compared to some of the other characters in the Star Wars universe, but he could still come in handy if some of the Skeleton Crew characters are rumored to appear in Dave Filoni’s upcoming film. come true The movie “star wars”. This movie is supposed to be a kind of culmination of the Mandalorian era, and it would be interesting to see how Jod interacts with some of the other Jedi and Jedi-related characters like Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, and even Grog, himself a survivor of Anakin’s attack on the temple the jedi

Star Wars: The Crew of Skeletons season 1 finale airs on January 14, 2025. at 6:00 PM PT on Disney+.
