DIVORCE: ‘Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Reveals Cody STOLE MONEY From Family Account
In Art Wife’s sister episode that aired on Sunday, January 26, Janelle Brown reflects on his financial situation with Cody Brown after their separation, shedding light on longstanding problems in their polygamy.
Janelle talks about money struggles
“I never felt like I had much control over my own money because everyone was withdrawing from the same (account)” Janelle trusts Christine Brown. Although she admits that the family fund worked well when they were combined, she admits that financial disagreements arose over time.
“It was great when we all started” Janelle actions. “This is how we created our family. But, for example, it was very difficult towards the end.”
The mother of six children recalls that in the early days, the family collectively decided which accounts to prefer.
“There was something like that (where) we were weighing which bills needed to be paid, how we were going to pay, who had priority,” she explains. however, Janelle claims that Cody began withdrawing large sums of money without explaining the purpose. “The last few years, Cody would just withdraw the funds, and I don’t know what for. And the money was simply wasted – and quite a lot,” she claims.
Cody defends his financial decisions
Cody denies Janelle accusations of misuse of funds, defending himself as the head of a large family. “I was a father until I was 18 and a husband for more than just that Janelle“, he says, noting that this money was supposed to cover many expenses. “We had a lot of places to send money to, but not always Janelle business”.
Cody clarifies this Janelleas the family accountant, was responsible for overseeing the transactions but may not have understood their reasons. “Some of the bills we all had to pay, she had to pay.” Cody says, prompting Janelle had more control than she claims.
Janelle refutes this by saying, “He likes this mantra that somehow I was (the) all-powerful with all the financial control.” She emphasizes, “I was really the person who recorded the transactions and sent them to the CPA.”
Controversy over Coyote Pass
The family’s financial differences are compounded by their shared property, Coyote Pass, which remains a stumbling block for Cody, Robyn, Janelleand Mary. Janelle reflects on his decision to trust Cody land management. “I believed that everything would work out in the end. And now, looking back, I’m like, “Wow, that’s really dumb.” Why didn’t I insist that we all be named on all the pieces?”
Janelle and Mary agree that they paid for the property equally through the family account but Cody disputes this. “We didn’t pay the same for Coyote Pass,” he claims. “I paid for the whole lot myself, at least 92 percent. We all invested the rest of the property.”
The conflicting accounts further widen the gap between the two Cody and his former wives. “I feel like Cody and Robin probably have some sort of plan of what they want to do and how they want to go about it,” Mary admits. “I think so Janelle there is some kind of plan and I know I have one too. And none of us talk to each other because none of us trust each other.’
Codyfor its part, shows little urgency in resolving the land dispute. “I’m working on it,” he tells the cameras. “But I’m in no rush to do it. I am not your servant to command.’
Janelle and Mary are considering suing
Janelle and Mary to discuss hiring attorneys to address the ongoing issues with Coyote Pass. “I think it’s time for someone to promote my interests. Maybe I’ll hire a lawyer.” Janelle says. “Actually, I was talking to one. I hope you feel the same way.”
Mary agrees, noting, “I do because it’s been a year and a half since that conversation with Cody.” In his confessional, Mary admits: “There was a lot of confusion about how things were handled in the family. I think that’s why I’m going to get a lawyer to help me through this process.”
She adds: “I sat back for a few years and just didn’t want to ruffle any feathers, so I largely ignored the issue. But I will push the issue now.’
Janelle later is divided by Christina that she has already taken legal action. “I did hire a lawyer. I found one and put a retainer on it,” she says. “Basically, I’m going to just go for asset division. Like, that’s all I can go for.’
Robin’s emotional connection to Coyote Pass
For now Janelle and Mary move forward with legal action, Robin expresses his reluctance to let Coyote Pass go. “I love Coyote Pass. I always had, says Robin. “It’s hard to think about letting it go.”
Cody admits that he and Robin have different opinions about property. “We are in different places,” he admits. “Sometimes I want to keep it; sometimes i want to sell it. And Robin knows we need to sell it, but sometimes he wants to keep it.”
Robin shares an emotional attachment to the land. “Every time I’m at Coyote Pass, my heart aches,” she says. “I’m (just) seeing the vision I’ve always had, you know, all the space and the houses.”
Moving forward
Janelle expresses his frustration with the slow progress. “Nothing is happening,” she laments in the confessional. “I asked Codylike, what about selling? What about all these things? He says, “Well, I don’t know. Maybe you should talk to Mary.’ It’s like he’s always putting me off.”
She adds, “I’m like, man, let’s just sell it, let’s split it—however we do it. But they are just crickets.’
Property dispute drags on Janelle and Mary determination to solve a problem reflects their willingness to move on Cody and the life they once shared. For both women, ending the land situation marks a step towards independence and closure.
Also in the episode, Christina and her husband David Woolleyto make a journey to Moab, where Christina is proud to present the first rental property she purchased on her own. She explains it David was not involved in the decision because she wanted to take on the project herself – something she never did during her marriage to Cody. When the steam comes and David gets a tour of the property, he praises Christina for her excellent choice, expressing her admiration, especially as someone with experience in the construction industry.
