December 15 series Wife’s sister opens with Cody and Robin Brown getting ready for a date. at the same time, Christine Brown and her fiancé David Woolley get engaged at a simple taco restaurant to celebrate their upcoming nuptials. It’s a very casual and unassuming place—definitely a stone’s throw away from fast food like McDonald’s—and I wonder why they chose that location for such a significant event. Couldn’t they have asked for a private room?
in any case, Christina is in full wedding mode, wearing a white dress and clearly indulging in taco after taco. But the tacos are too dirty for her dress, and the juice from the tacos stains her outfit as she dips. Meanwhile, everyone Christine the children are there to support her, including Janelle Brown and her son, Hunter, adding to the family atmosphere of the holiday.
“So David and I have only known each other for nine months,” Christina explains on camera. “It was a crash course in getting to know someone.”
A cake with the couple’s faces is cut, and Christina apparently enjoying the moment. However, it is clear that despite the joy of this event, there are also some underlying tensions, such as Christine son Pedon Brown quips, “Mom’s engaged now and she’s been dating him for 10 seconds, but we’re all so happy for her.”
Mary goes on a trip
meanwhile, Mary Brown goes on a road trip with her best friend jen, heading from Parawan, Utah to Las Vegas to visit a friend Brandy. As the ladies sit down, Jen educates Codyand Mary talks about the pain of her breakup with him. She talks about the false hope she had for years that their relationship could be restored. In particular, Mary mentions that Cody gave her a “list” of tasks to complete to save their relationship, but now she sees it all as false hope.
In a frank confession with the producers, Mary admits: “I don’t know why I do everything I can to be nice when he talks about me so lightly and comfortably.” This reveals deep emotional turmoil Mary still being processed regarding her relationship with Cody.
Mary then pulls out her phone to read the text message she sent Cody after she received a “spiritual release” from their church, officially ending their marriage. She reads out loud to Jen and Brandi, “Hello Codyjust wanted to follow up on a text i sent a couple of weeks ago. Just wanted to let you know that I had a conversation with management in Utah today and an official release was granted.”
In another confessional, Mary explains the meaning of the text. If she and Cody married in 1990, they had one ceremony that was both legal and spiritual. “It was really a mind game with me because I felt emotionally that I was writing off a marriage,” Mary muses, still considering the years of emotional complexity surrounding her relationship with Cody.
The scene returns to Mary reading her last message Cody“I’m heartbroken that our lives have come to this,” she says. “I will always love and respect you. Thank you for many years of joy. I hope now you will indeed have peace, and I release you from all responsibility or concern for me. I understood that.’ Words are heavy with finality like Mary closing the chapter on her marriage to Cody forever.
Robin tells Cody about Aurora and Breanna’s church plans
Back in Flagstaff, Cody and Robin are finally alone, but their date quickly turns into a discussion of their children. Robin brings up the subject of his daughters, Aurora and Breannawanting to visit the church again. She tells Cody that she also wants to go back to church, but Cody the reaction is less than enthusiastic. He no longer feels that church is a “safe place” for him, especially after the effects of his previous divorces. Cody admits that he is not entirely satisfied with this idea Robin attend church independently.
“When I met Codyhe was very involved in our church and from what I understand he was happy in our church.” Robin46, reflects on their early days, recalling the connection she felt with him. She continues, “I mean, I wouldn’t have thought of marrying him if I didn’t think he was.”
However, their relationship with the church changed after they went public with their polygamous lifestyle. Robin explains, “I really think the way our church reacted to it kind of pushed him away and it made him feel like, ‘Wait, what the hell?'”
Cody agrees and adds in the confessional: “I found that my faith began to conflict with religious views, a kind of gatekeeper.” He goes on to explain that when the church started imposing rules on him, such as telling him to cut his hair or act a certain way, it was a major turn-off. “I want to come sooner or later” Cody tells Robinbut she doesn’t seem to know where the family ends up worshiping.
Cody keeps Robin under strict rule
Robinwho tries to keep the family connected to her faith, hints that she and the children want to try new places of worship, but Cody disagree with the idea Robin visit alone. He teases her by saying, “Well, you don’t want to be without me for long because I don’t want some guy to think you’re a single mom.” Cody shows that he is aware of other men’s interest Robin and that he’s worried she’ll be a target.
“Many are interested in men Robin“, Cody admits in a confession, explaining how some men tried to bypass him and court her. “Now I’m protective,” he quips, revealing his protective instincts for his fourth wife.
Robin calms him down by saying she’ll wear a wedding ring and tell everyone she’s not in the market. Despite this, it is obvious that Cody territorial instincts are strong and he is not happy to be played along Robin.
The couple share a tender moment when Cody reflects on his first meeting in the church. “The first time I saw you at our church, we made that look, that connection,” Cody remembers Robin teasing that she actually made the first move, but Cody insists that he looked longer and even thought, “That must have been inappropriate. She is probably married.”
Cody and Robin reminisce about their early days and Cody says, “I want you to know that God was my companion with you and that no one can take you away.” Robin she smiles, remembering how she noticed Cody “laugh lines” when she saw him for the first time and how she was immediately drawn to him.
The scene ends with Cody jokes about protecting his “honor” and makes it clear that he is not going to let anyone stand between him Robin.
It is clear that for Cody, even after all these years he is unsure of his relationship with Robin and doesn’t want to let anyone in. Robinfor her part, assures him that she is devoted to him and no one else stands a chance.
