Sheldon’s Young co-star Annie Potts was shocked by the show’s cancellation

In the age of streaming, finding a foothold for a show can seem like a daunting task. Netflix and other major streaming platforms routinely cancel series after just one or two seasons, long before they reach their peak. Part of that is due to the high cost of producing a potentially hit show. Much of this has to do with the endless sea of ​​options available to viewers these days. That’s what makes Young Sheldon feel like a relic of a bygone era. The Big Bang Theory spin-off had a great run on CBS that ran for seven seasons. However, even on network television, good things come to an end.

“Young Sheldon” season 7 turned out to be the last hurrah, with a series finale in May 2024. Ian Armitage’s run as Sheldon Cooper is over. CBS decided to cancel the show, mainly because they felt it was time to end the show, creatively speaking. Even so, the cancellation caught at least one cast member by surprise. Namely, Annie Potts, who played Connie “Mimow” Tucker in all seven seasons of the series. In April 2024 interview with DiversityPotts didn’t hold back her feelings about the network’s decision.

“It was especially difficult because I was completely unprepared. I was shocked. I mean, it’s the #1 show on network TV, the #1 show on Netflix. We’re, I think, all people watch on TikTok except for a couple of Pasta Recipes. Sorry, but I don’t know when the show starts to drag, or if there aren’t enough stories either way I was ambushed.

Potts, who is probably the most famous her work as Jeanine Melnitz in the Ghostbusters films.not used to participating in the show’s conclusion. Potts played Mary Jo on Designer of Women, also on CBS, and the show ran for seven seasons. But this pill was hard for her to swallow.

“It was half of Ian’s life, and it was May 10th, but at 70, it seems important,” Potts added in the same interview. “We have a small village and we all took care of each other and raised each other. There will be a terrible hole in my life. There is no doubt about it. It will become easier. Grief does, loss does.”

The Big Bang Theory was saved from cancellationand it eventually became the biggest show on television. It also gave way to this show, which was just as big. Not to mention the audience favorite. It was hard for Potts to understand why CBS would end a show that still seemed to have a strong audience. Armitage, for his part, understood where she was coming from. As the star of the show explained in that interview:

“I totally understand what Annie means. It’s also very strangely difficult, which I can only understand if I step back and try to take a global view, which is difficult. I mean, I’m not going to get to see Annie Potts every day. It’s a real loss for me, I definitely think we could have done a lot more.

Fortunately, these characters are now alive. CBS recently began airing Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, which is dedicated to Georgia from Montana Jordan and Mandy from Emily Osment. For Potts, it also means she’ll be returning as Mim for the second Big Bang Theory spin-off to air. So even though one show ended, it gave way to another. These characters live.
