Mason, 15, is the oldest of three children he shares with his ex Kourtney Kardashian. The former couple, who split in 2015, also have daughter Penelope, 12, and son Reing, 10.
Disick, 41, appeared in the first series Khloe Kardashian‘s “Chloe in Wonderland,” on the Wednesday, Jan. 8 podcast, where he shared that he had some difficult conversations with Mason.
“The truth is, I explain to Mason how the drinking had an effect on me and how badly it put me in certain places,” he said. “I talk to him about it all the time.”
Disick’s ups and downs have been public since his first appearance on the Keeping up with the Kardashians in 2007. He and Kourtney dated from 2006 to 2015, and his substance abuse was a point of tension throughout their relationship.
They separated shortly after the death of both of Disick’s parents, and the added trauma compounded the problem. He first checked into rehab in 2014 before returning several times in 2015 again in 2020.

When Khloe praised Disick for being honest with his son, he added that he would treat Mason like any other child when it comes to alcohol.
“For a while, he thought I was going to treat him differently because of it,” Disick said of his history of substance abuse. “And I said, ‘I don’t treat you any differently because of my mistakes or the way I’ve lived. But if I see you have a drinking problem, I will take action. But other than that, you’re just like all the other kids. You’ll try to drink if you try to drink, but if I see a problem that might be hereditary, I’ll jump. But until then, you are treated like any other child.”
Khloe also suggested that the fact that Disick is going through the worst of it in the public eye could help keep Mason from making the same mistakes.
“Maybe if he sees your quirkiness, like the days in Miami and all, maybe it will stop him from drinking because he’ll see how…” she suggested.
“(He’ll be) like, ‘Wow, like my dad was a real h…,'” Disick joked.
“But he also knows how incredible you are right now,” Kardashian interjected. “So it’s not like you’re still like that.”
