Scott Boland gives an update on Mitchell Starc’s fitness
Scott Boland spoke to reporters after the end of the third day’s play at the MCG. During the press conference, he was asked about the concerns of his teammate Mitchell Starc. Boland revealed that Starc has a problem but is likely to be fine to play more part in the rest of the Test match.
“He (Mitchell Starc) is fine. He just had a little bit of back or rib pain but I don’t know. But he came on after the break and was playing 140 (kph). I think he will do it. be good Boland said.
Mitchell Starc is capable of bowling over 140 kmph consistently. However, his pace dipped during the third day’s play as he struggled to consistently throw a good line. He also bowled down the leg at times as India’s batsmen bowled him comfortably.
“Underrated for how tough he is” – Scott Boland on Mitchell Starc
Scott Boland further recalled a time when Mitchell Starc bowled at speeds north of 140 kmph even with an injured finger. He praised Starc’s ability to play through a lot of pain and said it was a great shot for a fast bowler.
“Underrated for how tough he is. I think a couple of years ago here at the MCG with a broken finger, we didn’t think he was going to play at all and then he came and played 140km/h swingers,” Boland recalled to journalists .
“He’s someone who can bowl in a lot of pain and he’s played close to 90 Test matches now. As a fast bowler, there’s not many games you play without any discomfort. But he’s someone who can still bowl. at the same pace, even if he’s in a lot of pain, which is a great trait,” said the 35-year-old.
Australia no longer play with their strongest pace attack as Josh Hazlewood has been discarded from the series after getting injured in the last test. Boland replaced him for this game and is likely to play the next Test as well.
