Samsung will unveil its latest smartphones on January 22
New year, new Samsung smartphone to drop your cash on. The company has officially announced that it will host Galaxy Unpacked Wednesday, January 22. It will be in San Jose, California – my hometown, if you care. We expect Samsung to announce Galaxy S25 seriesfrom petite to Ultra. Plus, there’s likely a lot of Galaxy AI in store, as the event teaser makes clear.
You can follow Samsung’s keynote here at Gizmodo, where we’ll have the news as it comes. Samsung will broadcast the event to its YouTube channel.
What to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked
We look forward to seeing what Samsung does next with its flagship series. The latest releases from Apple and Google have been relative hits since debuting last summer, so the stakes are high. Although Samsung was the first to introduce AI as a value-add to a premium smartphone, it doesn’t have Google Gemini to use like last year’s Galaxy S24.
The company already told us that the Galaxy S25 series was close in a press release many months ago. But we know nothing about its interior or what it claims to do. We can only assume that it will have Qualcomm’s latest chip scaled up for Samsung’s devices. It will likely have thinner bezels, a larger display and flatter corners, as was the trajectory with the Ultra series. Some rumors say that the Galaxy S25 on the factory line resembles the iPhone that Samsung spent years trying to differentiate itself from. Funnily enough, so is the Google Pixel 9 range. Is that where everyone in Android land is headed? As for the other models, a smaller Galaxy S25 is expected to match the screen size of the Apple and Google models. A smaller display can mean an easier-to-carry device with all the benefits of its bigger flagship brothers.
Now that we have an official date, the rumors will probably start to gather. Samsung still relies heavily on AI to drive excitement forward. The teaser video released alongside the Galaxy Unpacked announcement begins with someone waking up and asking a digital assistant to put “Galaxy Unpacked” on a calendar. Samsung will have to prove to its users that Galaxy AI is not just a gimmick, like Bixby fell to us after it failed to cope with Google Assistant.
If you’re a Samsung fan who can pre-order a device without knowing what’s coming next, the company is hoping to entice you with a $50 credit in reserve between now and launch day on January 22nd. Samsung is offering up to $900 in trade-in credit, so consider the gadget in your arsenal that can help keep costs down. Last year’s Galaxy S24 devices ranged from $800 to $1,300 for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It will probably be priced around the same range this year or higher, with all the tariffs and rising costs.
