“Family Guy” fought against political correctness and offensive jokes as much as Peter with the too-big chicken, even pushing the buttons of Oscar-winning actors. However, there was one episode in particular that got the show in more hot water than usual when Russia insulted the two-part season 21 finale, starting with episode 19, “From Russia With Love,” followed by “Education adults” .” The storyline of the episodes was seen by Meg (Mila Kunis, who replaced the character’s original voice actor Lacey Chabert in Season 2) to cross to Chelyabinsk, Russia, and marry a computer hacker named Ivan. Taking things to the limit, the second part of the two-parter included one of the show’s signature tongue-in-cheek songs, “This Old Town,” in which Meg danced around her new home much like Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Government officials did not react to the fact that Chelyabinsk is being mocked like this Newsweek in 2023, it was revealed that an attempt had been made to ban “Family Guy”. Yana Lantratova, deputy of the Chelyabinsk region, said on the air “Rise of Russia” about this episode: “The artist has the right to his vision, but this is obviously an offensive artistic image that has nothing to do with reality.” In particular, Lantratova denied the image of Chelyabinsk in the musical series, saying: “This is a purposeful work against our country. Information war through works of art. They deliberately create an image of Russia as a country where everyone is dissatisfied with life, drinks, uses drugs, and accepts bribes.

Family Guy spread offense around the world

While it’s easy to see why Russia would be outraged by “Family Guy” and its portrayal of Chelyabinsk, it wouldn’t be the first country to be mocked by Peter Griffin (Seth MacFarlane) and the rest of the local the people of Quahog. According to the series (which has been running for over 22 seasons), it’s perfectly normal for a man in Australia to marry a boat. Meanwhile, in England, apparently, no one has clean teeth and everyone speaks absolute gibberish. That being said, “Family Guy” went to Russia long before Meg broke out with the song, and even dared to poke fun at the country’s current leader, Vladimir Putin.

So far, the Russian leader has appeared in four episodes of Family Guy, including one in which Putin acts as Raiders of the Lost Ark villain Major Arnold Tocht. After all, the creator of the show, Seth MacFarlane recently admitted that there is one joke he regretsbelieve that fans of the series are savvy enough to know that it’s all in the name of good fun. “Audiences can feel the difference between virtue signaling on social media and real offense,” he said Los Angeles Times in April 2024. “If it’s a real offense, you haven’t got away with comedy.”
