Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel addressed the growing concerns over Rohit Sharma’s form and the challenges he poses for the Indian cricket team in the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. With KL Rahul looking comfortable after reclaiming the top spot, Rohit’s struggles have become even harder to overlook.

The Indian captain, now batting at No.6, has been far from his best in the ongoing five-match Test series Down Under, and now his odd dismissal at the Gabba against Pat Cummins raised more questions about technique and Rohit’s mentality.

The commentator admitted that the Indian cricket team is now in a tough spot, and Rohit’s inability to deliver, both as a captain and a batsman, has become increasingly difficult to ignore. Notably, Rohit has gone through a rough patch after the England series at home and is yet to find his mojo.

Parthi Patel told Cricbuzz: “Yes, it is difficult (to ignore); there is no doubt. When your captain is playing this cricket for longer and the runs are not coming, the pressure is on the team and the captain. And it is clearly visible on the ground. The pressure is seen in how Rohit bats and the decision he makes on the field.”

We want Rohit Sharma to perform well: Parthiv Patel

He admitted that whether it is his faltering front foot or his lack of confidence at the crease, the uncertainty in Rohit’s game is undeniable. As captain, these performances not only put pressure on him but also on the entire team, which is starting to show in Rohit Sharma’s body language and decision-making on the field, according to Patel.

Patel further explained, “There’s uncertainty in his footwork. His front foot isn’t coming forward; he’s playing from long off, and that’s why he’s getting to the outside edges or he’s missing the edge and takes a hit on the stumps. So there is definitely uncertainty in Rohit’s footwork, and it shows throughout, and it’s hard to ignore. We want Rohit Sharma to perform well as a captain, but we are not seeing this man now.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s poor form has become a major concern, with just 62 runs in 7 innings at an average of just over 8. This series of failed displays raised questions about whether his struggles they are due to a clouded mentality or technical defects.

However, there is now a noticeable lack of confidence in his footwork, which has led to technical problems, according to the former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman. He feels Rohit needs to play his natural game in Test cricket.

Parthiv believes that Rohit is struggling with technical flaws and mental uncertainty, saying that if a batsman is mentally confident, he can often overcome technical shortcomings, but unfortunately, the Indian skipper is struggling to find a clear direction.

Parthiv Patel signed off saying, “He is playing in a different position but you don’t need to play Test cricket like white-ball games. We saw Rohit Sharma making long runs in Test cricket when he let the ball go early and He played his natural game. There is no guarantee in his footwork. But if you are mentally confident, you can overcome it found at the crossroads He doesn’t know where to go.”
