Reddit blames ‘Bug’ after banning more than 90 NSFW Subreddits
Reddit briefly banned dozens of arrangements without warning on Wednesday due to “error” that affected the results of the NSFW communities on the site. They said Subreddits were banned from “unmodern”, although many of them were highly moderated, according to many posts of confused moderators.
Engadget counted More than 90 Subreddits This seems to have been caught in the ban on “unmodern”. The greater part of them have already been restored after they left offline for a few hours on Wednesday morning. In a publication in R/Modsupport, Reddit administrator has accused the widespread error bans. “There was an error with one of our tools that caused some subreddits incorrectly forbidden,” They wroteS “We are actively working on correction and many of your communities are already working and working. We appreciate that you are already busy moderate in your communities and will do our best to prevent this from repeating. “
Reddit spokesman told Engadget that the problem is "A mistake associated with how we find unmodern communities" But they did not provide details or confirmed how many subreddits were affected. But it seems that the bug was widespread throughout the site. This affected dozens of subreddits, followed by millions of people.
The banned subreddits included some of the most popular NSFW communities, including R/Porn (3.9 million members), R/Rule34 (3.6 million), R/Boobs (2.5 million) and R/NSFW_GIF (2, 1 million). It also influenced some drugs related to drugs, including R/medicines, R/cocaine and R/Narcoclips. Some subreddits, which are not marked as NSFW but allow NSFW content, such as R/Transgender_surgeries and R/Cubancigars, have also fallen into the ban.
The nature of the affected Subreddits bothers some users and moderators who worry that the company can prepare for more repression. In r/transgender_surgeries where users discuss their medical assistance, members started to discuss Ways to “back up” the content of Subreddit. "The explanation given to us in R/Modsupport is missing and I was a little furious and disappointed that there is no communication with us," Moderator for R/Rule34 told Engadget. "So far, we have no prepared unforeseen situations in case this happens another time, but at the moment we find a way to build one with the help of other mods in and outside this subreddit."
Elsewhere, concerned users indicated that this is a second time in six months This Reddit mistakenly banned the popular NSFW Subreddits that it is supposedly unmodern. Redditors complained similar prohibitions Last year. “Our Subreddit Automation was a little excessive,” Reddit administrator said at that time. They added to the monthly thread today, saying that the last bans were “other than what happened before” but did not develop.
