RBI debt report – Rising State Debt: Top 10 Indian States with Highest Liabilities in 2024

The outstanding debt of the Indian states has seen sharply over the past five years, reflecting the growth of borrowing in the conditions of economic challenges. According to the Indian Reserve Bank (RBI), the total liabilities of the Areas of All States (UTS) in 2019 increased from 47.9 Rs to Rs in 2024 – 74% growth.

The best 10 countries with the highest outstanding debt in 2024

Among the states, Tamil Nadu has the highest balance in Rs at 8.3 Rs, followed by Yuar Pradesh 7.2 Rs Rs 7.2 Rs. West Bengal is in fourth place with 6.6, and Karnat is watching 6.0 lakh raves. Rajasthan (5.6 Rs Crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 4.9 Lakh Crore), Gujarat (4.7 Lakh Kirum), Kerala (4,3 Lakh Krore) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs 4.2 Lakh Crore).

In the last five years the growth of state-wise debts

The growth of special obligations fluctuates from states. Among the main states, Madha Pradesh registered the highest growth of 114%, increasing in 2019. The outstanding debt of Andra Pradesh increased by 84%, and Rajastan and Kerala witnessed 80% and 76%, respectively. Maharashtra had a relatively lower debt increase by 65%, and Carter Pradesh registered the lowest growth by 35%.

Debt related to the State GDP (at current GSDP prices)

The debt burden on states is often measured in connection with their gross state domestic product (GSDP). Among the main states Maharashtra has the lowest debt repayment rate by 18%, followed by a quarter of 24%. On the other hand, West Bengal has the maximum debt-GDP ratio by 39%, followed by Kerala and Rajastan, each with 37%. Tamil Nadu and Madhaya Pradesh are 31%, and Andhra Pradesh has a 34% ratio. Uttar Pradesh has a consignively moderate debt load by 30% of his GSDP.

Maharashtra tops State GDP

Maharashtra remains the Indian Economic Power Plant, in 2023-24, at the current prices of 40.44 Lakh village. Tamil Nadu is following Rs 27.22, and Utar Pradesh stands at Rs of 25,48. Carnaty and West Bengal have 25.01 RS State GDPS and respectively 17.01 RS RS RS Rs. For 2024, GUJARAT’S STATE GDP is not available.
