Rapper OG Maco has died at the age of 32 after a suspected gunshot wound

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as O. G. Mako,” the musician’s family wrote on Friday, December 27. Instagram statement on its official page. “His life was a testament to perseverance, creativity and boundless love. He touched so many lives with his music, passion and unwavering spirit and left a lasting legacy.”
The statement continued: “While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived — one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Mako’s impact as both an artist and a person will live on in our hearts forever.”
The cause of death of Mako, whose real name is Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., has not been released. Earlier it was reported that he suffered a gunshot wound. TMZ Earlier this month, it was claimed that police were called to Mako’s home in Los Angeles after a firearm was fired. According to the outlet, Maco was after taken to a local hospital for surgery.
“He is currently in a serious but stable condition,” December 16 statement of Macy’s family read. “He is receiving the best care possible and we remain hopeful as he continues to fight. … We thank you for your understanding, support and continued prayers during this difficult time.”
Mako is survived by his parents and older sister.
“For those wishing to offer condolences, share memories or contact the family, please reach out through the account,” the statement added on Friday. “Your support means more than words can express. To all Maco fans, friends and supporters: thank you for supporting him throughout his journey.”
The message concluded: “Today we celebrate a life that was extraordinary in every way. With love and gratitude, the OG Maco family.”
Mako rose to prominence in 2014 with the release of his debut single “U Guessed It” featuring 2 chains.
“It’s so crazy because every day I wake up and I’m more famous,” he quipped Vice later that year. “I think that’s the case for everybody in town who really ends up doing it. It was a long period of, “You’re mad because, you know, I’m good!” And no one pays attention!”
At the time, Maco noted that he drew on his emotions to create his tracks.
“I’m pulling from it. But since I can rap, it’s not just a shout,” he explained to the publication. “It’s formatted, but really it’s just my pure emotions.”
