Rachel Lewis reveals she feels ‘vindicated’ after James Kennedy’s domestic violence arrest!
Rachel “Raquel” Lewis openly talks about her difficult past with her ex-fiancé James Kennedy after being arrested for domestic violence.
The Vanderpump Rules alum, 30, revisited strong december 2018 Instagram post on Wednesday, Dec. 18, reflecting on his experience with Kennedy, 32. “I stand by what I wrote here” Rachel highlighted next to the restored post where she defended herself against criticism for remaining with James at that time.
“Being in an abusive relationship is confusing because you believe in your significant other’s potential and can’t understand how someone who says they love you would intentionally hurt you,” she wrote.
“There are few bad times, it’s easy to minimize abuse and you want to believe that a person is capable of change.” Rachel first touched on this issue in 2018, when it was still dating James.
“Tonight’s episode was emotional for me. Using the word dumb to describe why I chose to stay with James completely inappropriate,” she explained then. “I grew up not knowing I had a learning disability and I wasn’t diagnosed with ADD until college,” she continued.
“I’ve always had a hard time studying, and one of the very first problems I faced was failing the ice cream multiplication test. However, I am NOT stupid. In fact, in college I figured out how to study better and worked really hard to get my degree, graduating with honors. Words like DUMB and STUPID are as offensive as the word FAT.’
Rachel also expressed her gratitude to those who supported her during the recovery process. “I’ve been through so many emotions over the past week,” she shared Instagram Stories. “I feel happy and vindicated, but also so sad and broken. I don’t want it to be hushed up like before.”
She continued, “A lot of my podcast is about my experiences with coercive control and understanding how to overcome it.” Despite the heavy emotions, Levis determined to focus on the future.
“I want to leave it on a positive note: there is so much to look forward to next year. I am grateful to everyone who expressed kindness and kind words of support during difficult times and small victories.”
Rachel statements come in a few days Kennedy arrest on charges of domestic violence.
On Dec. 10, the Burbank Police Department was called Kennedy Los Angeles home “in reference to a dispute between a man and a woman,” a police spokesman confirmed PEOPLE.
Rachellawyers, Mark Geragos and Brian Friedmanalso addressed the incident, stating, “We know James Kennedy recent arrest for domestic violence. This news, unfortunately, is not surprising. Rachel Mr. describes the lawsuit in some detail. Kennedy a long history of disorderly violent behavior and substance abuse.’
