Progressive news site HuffPost plans on cutting 30 editorial journalists due to ‘growing challenges’

Progressive news website HuffPost plans to lay off 30 editorial writers this year, according to reports.

“I write with sad news,” said HuffPost Editor-in-Chief Daniel S. In a memorandum sent by Belton. “HuffPost is undergoing a significant round of job cuts due to the ongoing and growing challenges to our business.”

Proposals for employees may include “voluntary buyout packages for certain newsroom desks.”

“I realize this is a sad way to start the year, and we’ll be sure to share more details as quickly and clearly as possible because I think it’s important to be transparent and share information with what we have,” Belton wrote. : . “In the coming days, we will provide more information about the job cuts and HuffPost’s plans for 2025 and beyond.”

HuffPost has about 132 people in its newsroom, and will lose approximately 23% of its editorial staff with the upcoming layoffs.

Other major media outlets have laid off or are about to lay off significant parts of their workforces.Just this week, The Washington Post almost did 100 employees in its business units, which account for 4% of its total workforce.

The cuts followed a difficult year for the newspaper, which culminated in the loss of at least 250,000 subscribers and the resignation of several prominent Post employees when owner Jeff Bezos decided that the Post to be disapproving 2024 presidential candidate.

A CNN employee told Fox News Digital in November that the cable news channel plans to implement job cuts until Marchwhich, according to them, will be “very meaningful” for the company. “This is a time of complete and utter business model overhaul and chaos. It’s extremely difficult even under the best of circumstances,” they said.

HuffPost did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
