Prince Andrew says he has ‘cut all contact’ with alleged Chinese spy
In a letter found on one of his devices, Prince Andrew’s adviser Dominic Hampshire told H6: “You sit in a tree that many, many people will like, outside of (the Prince’s) closest inner circle. to be on.”
Mr Hampshire adds: “Under your guidance we have found a way to keep the relevant people in and out of the house in Windsor.”
The excerpt from the letter contained in the decision does not provide additional information about who the “relevant persons” are.
Mr Hampshire also confirmed to H6 that he could act for Prince Andrew in talks with “potential partners and investors in China”.
A document listing “key talking points” for the call with Prince Andrew was also found.
It says: “IMPORTANT: Manage expectations. It’s really important not to set expectations ‘too high’ – he’s desperate and will do anything.”
The court assessed that this meant that H6 was in a position to “establish links between senior Chinese officials and prominent UK figures which could be exploited by the Chinese State for the purposes of political interference”.
Judges said H6 had “earned an extraordinary degree of trust from a senior member of the royal family who was about to enter into business with him”.
They added that the relationship developed at a time when the prince was “under considerable pressure” and that it “could make him vulnerable to the abuse of such influence”.
The prince has faced increasing scrutiny since late 2019 over his friendship with the late US financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following his infamous Newsnight interview in November of that year.
He withdrew from royal duties in November 2019, and the prince has since faced questions about his judgment and finances.
Questions have been raised of the prince’s finances after reaching a settlement — estimated to be in the millions — in a civil sexual-assault case brought against him by one of Epstein’s accusers, Virginia Giuffre. The prince has always denied attacking Ms Giuffre.
