Former president Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn Carterthe relationship was the longest presidential marriage in US history.

Long before Jimmy became the 39th President of the United States, he met his future wife when he was 3 years old, as his mother, Lillian Carterhelped give birth to Rosaline in 1927. They got married in 1946. earlier takes four children.

Just days before their 75th wedding anniversary in July 2021, Jimmy called his marriage to Rosalyn “the most important thing in my life” during an interview with Good morning, America.

“We’ve lived together for so long because, above all, we give each other a lot of space to do our own thing,” he added. “(But we still) share as much as we can. … For 75 years of marriage, we have always deepened our love for each other. I think it’s kind of an unusual thing. It doesn’t happen to very many couples, but it definitely happened to us.”

Rosaline died in November 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. “Rosalyn has been my equal partner in everything I’ve ever accomplished,” Jimmy said in a statement at the time. “She gave me wise advice and encouragement when I needed it. While Rosalyn was in the world, I always knew that someone loved and supported me.”

Jimmy died a year later at the age of 100 years.
