Premier League Predictions: Saturday Matches Week 17
There is no official starting point for the festive football calendar, but week 17 may be the unofficial start of the Premier League.
We were given a proper carabao during the week, with Tottenham win 4-3 against Manchester United being one of the craziest. There were plenty of goals as eight Premier League sides faced off with a place in the semi-finals of the competition at stake, and there is plenty to live up to this weekend.
The schedule makers have democratically opted for a rare even spread of games over the weekend, with five games to be played on both Saturday and Sunday.
Clubs will be desperate to get into the festivities at their best, and here’s how 90 minutes projects Premier League Saturday’s games in Week 17 to go.
Some have foreshadowed things getting worse Manchester City before returning to a recognizable level, but how far will Pep Guardiola’s team sink? Last weekend’s defeat in the Manchester Derby means they have won just one of their previous 11 games in all competitions.
While Villa Park isn’t the fortress it was last season, it’s always a tough place for the bigs to visit. An early pitch can benefit the visitors when they face one Aston Villa side with the aim of consolidating and finding some consistency.
The 3pm slate once again features surprise entertainers Brentfordwho has been almost unstoppable in west London this season. The Bees have the best home record in the division, and there’s sure to be a goal-mouth action fest when Nottingham Forest visit on Saturday
Newcastle United were brilliant in their 4-0 win against Leicester last weekend, with most of their points coming at St. James’ Park. The Magpies are without home comforts on Saturday as they visit one Ipswich Town the team are still looking for their first Premier League win at Portman Road since 2002.
Brighton are another side in the midst of a slump but have enjoyed their duels with West Ham United in recent times and are taking on a scrappy Hammers outfit in East London. Julen Lopetegui’s job is still not entirely secure despite a couple of positive results.
Saturday’s action concludes at Selhurst Park as arsenal assume Crystal Palace for the second time this week. It should be a warmer affair than the five-goal encounter we saw on Wednesday, with the Gunners looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after back-to-back draws.
