Pope Francis announced a special jubilee year for Roman Catholics at the Christmas Eve ceremony in the Vatican.

The Pope marked the beginning of the jubilee by opening the Holy Door, usually made of brick, in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Jubilees are held only once every 25 years, and more than 30 million pilgrims are expected to pass through the gates and travel to Rome to seek forgiveness for their sins.
