Player ratings as Spurs face thrilling clash to reach Carabao Cup semi-finals
Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday night at the expense of Manchester United, courtesy of a 4-3 win in north London.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have now made it two wins in a row in all competitions after a previous run of five games without, and are one step closer to ending a trophy drought that began in 2008.
But it was almost a disaster spursat one point leading 3-0, before conceding twice through errors to allow the visitors back into the game. A brace from Dominic Solanke and one from Dejan Kulusevskis had Tottenham heading for victory, only for goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo to make it a game after Fraser Forster’s shocking errors. Son Heung-min then scored straight from a corner, before Spurs conceded a third to Jonny Evans, but held on until the end.
For united and Ruben Amorim, the result and overall performance was disappointing, but will serve to teach the new manager even more about the inconsistent squad he inherited just last month.
