Pixar’s Upcoming Disney+ Show Win or Lose Removed Transgender Plot (UPDATED)
of Pixar the next TV show is already on answer your own question. It’s called Win or lose and, it seems, the company is going with the latter. The the show was set for a feature potential transgender character, but has since removed references to the character’s gender.
“When it comes to animated content for younger audiences, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain topics with their children on their own terms and timeline,” a Disney spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporterwho broke the news.
Win or lose is an upcoming Disney+ show from Pixar that follows the members of a co-ed softball team in the week leading up to the championship game. Each episode focuses on a different member of the team, telling the same story from their unique perspective. Yes, it’s basically Pixar Rashomon.
The character in question remains on the show, but without reference to their gender. According to reports, the decision was made several months ago and only took a few lines of dialogue to change. No other details.
However, after the initial news broke, the actress who voices the character, Chanel Stewart, spoke to Deadline to her dismay. “I was very discouraged,” Stewart said. “From the moment I received the script, I was excited to share my journey to help empower other trans youth. I knew this would be a very important conversation. Trans stories matter and deserve to be heard.”
She couldn’t reveal any details other than that the character she was voicing wasn’t a long trance. “My character is now going to be a cis girl, a straight cis girl,” she said. “So yeah, that’s all they really told me and that I’m still part of the show.” Read more about how Stewart got the role here.
This is not the first time Mouse House has faced such social issues. The the latest incident was the news that an upcoming episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaurr was canceled because it dealt with trans kids playing sports, though the studio disputed those specific claims. It also ran into controversy a brief glimpse of a kiss between two women inside light year and rumors spread that From the inside out 2 main character Riley’s feelings for another girl receded significantly. In these and other cases one must applaud the creators who tried to subtly teach a younger audience that the world was more unique and inclusive than their own personal experiences, and resented the executives who prevented that from happening.
It’s worth noting, however, that we’re seeing a bit more LGBTQ+ content in Disney’s adult fare. Agatha All together followed the romance between two women, on Fox Next goal wins featured a transgender character and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew recently revealed that one of the characters has two mothers. But nothing like that will happen Win or lose when it debuts on Disney+ on February 19, 2025.
Update on December 17, 6:30 p.m.: We’ve added the quotes and context from Deadline’s piece with voice actress Chanel Stewart.
